Born in Saint Michael and raised in Bridgetown, Barbados, Rihanna auditioned for American record producer Evan Rogers who invited her to the United States to record demo tapes. After signing with Def Jam, in 2005 Rihanna's fame quickly grew when she released her first two studio albums: Music of the Sun (2005) and A Girl Like Me (2006). These albums were inspired by Caribbean music and climbed to the top ten positions on the US Billboard 200 Chart. Good Girl Gone Bad, Rihanna's third studio album, was heavily influenced and influenced by dance pop. It established her as a sex icon in the music industry. Rihanna has sold more that 250 million records around the world is the second highest-selling female artist in the world of music. She has earned 14 number-ones and 31 top-ten songs in the US and 30 top-ten singles in the UK. She has been awarded nine Grammy Awards, thirteen American Music Awards (including Icon Award) 12, 12 Billboard Music Awards and six Guinness World Records. She was also awarded the NAACP's President's Award. Time has named her one of the 100 most influential people worldwide in the years 2012 and 2018. Forbes classified her as one of the top 10 highest-paid stars in 2012 and 2014. Forbes named her one of the top ten most paid famous people in 2012, 2014, and she has a net worth of $1.4 million.
